poke berry paintings

Friday will normally be our watercolor painting days, but I haven't ordered watercolor paints yet. So, we used what was available in our yard to make beautiful paintings - poke berries!

First, the children carefully picked a small bowlful of berries from the large plant beside our porch steps.

Then they used their fingers to squish all of the berries into a water-y "paint":

Next came the fun part: painting!!

They made some really wonderful paintings!!

* a word of caution: poke berries are mildly poisonous, so take care to clean up thoroughly from this craft and emphasize that finger licking is NOT allowed!

We were going to do that too, until the birds claimed them as theirs!
