beautiful day!

I love it when we are able to spend the entire day outside! I love it when Spring comes, and with it - so many opportunities to learn just by observing. The chicks are growing, the garden is growing, the amaryllis on our nature table is growing, and my kids even seem to grow faster under the beautiful Sunshine!

We had snack time, learning time, and play time out in the lovely fresh air! Yoga is so wonderful under the big blue sky!

little vacation

We stayed with our friends, the Fun family, for a few days this week. We had such a relaxing time!

We explored downtown...

Attended an egg felting playgroup (thank you Allison!!)...

We visited a farm and the kids got to play with quails! We even brought two quail eggs home. Clover has them under a warming light and is turning them & hoping for some baby quails...

And even though the weather was chilly, we played in the Ocean just a little bit...

egg hunt with friends

Our Spring egg hunt was a rainy affair, but so much fun! We had friends over for a snack potluck (yum!), puppet show, and egg hunt. Everyone admired the chicks, played, and celebrated Spring.

The puppet show was so much fun! We should do this more often! I told a story about the Spring Faery needing help with hiding eggs for all of the children. Clover made the faery fly and the animals move. The kids ate Carrie's famous chocolate peanut butter eggs while they listened.

While the puppet show was enjoyed, all of the Dads hid eggs. It was so much fun to watch the kids run around in the rain searching for eggs.

We added some of the animals from the puppet show and some of the eggs from the egg hunt to our Spring table. It is beautiful!!

Hurray for Spring time!

Spring Equinox

Spring Equinox was so beautiful this year - warm and sunny with huge white clouds in the amazingly blue sky. We celebrated by planting our early Spring garden - peas, broccoli, kale, rainbow chard, potatoes and carrots, radishes, beets, celery, and several different lettuces.

We made egg dye from beets, blueberries, and onion skins. And then we dyed eggs. They turned out so beautifully.

I told the story of Persephone's return to the Earth during our delicious dinner on the back porch. We ate lots of chickweed and had some pomegranate juice in honor of the Goddess. Happy Spring Equinox!!

baby chicks!!!

Tim took the kids to the feed store on Saturday. They were each allowed to choose a baby chick to raise.

Meet Jane...

...and Chicky...

...and Benny...

...and Milk!

We're lucky that they are such resilient little creatures. They have been having all sorts of adventures all over the play room.

Besides the four named chicks, we got fourteen others - a nice mix of Golden Comets, Aricaunas, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, and Buff Orpingtons. I'm excited to have baby chicks again!
