Spring Equinox

Spring Equinox was so beautiful this year - warm and sunny with huge white clouds in the amazingly blue sky. We celebrated by planting our early Spring garden - peas, broccoli, kale, rainbow chard, potatoes and carrots, radishes, beets, celery, and several different lettuces.






We made egg dye from beets, blueberries, and onion skins. And then we dyed eggs. They turned out so beautifully.





I told the story of Persephone's return to the Earth during our delicious dinner on the back porch. We ate lots of chickweed and had some pomegranate juice in honor of the Goddess. Happy Spring Equinox!!

baby chicks!!!

Tim took the kids to the feed store on Saturday. They were each allowed to choose a baby chick to raise.

We're lucky that they are such resilient little creatures. They have been having all sorts of adventures all over the play room.




Besides the four named chicks, we got fourteen others - a nice mix of Golden Comets, Aricaunas, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, and Buff Orpingtons. I'm excited to have baby chicks again!

Friday co-op

We had so much fun at Waldorf co-op in the woods on Friday!! The temperature was perfect for creek play. We had such a wonderful Circle time. Yoga was blissful, our verses are memorized almost perfectly, and Kate told a wonderful version of Stone Soup. By the end of her story, we were all laughing!

Craft time was so much fun! We made butterflies from coffee filters, pipe cleaners, and beads. The kids had such a good time with the droppers and diluted paints that Kate brought. Nova could have played with the droppers all day long.






After lots of playing in the woods and in the creek, we headed for home full of joy and with muddy toes.

Today we started preparing for our Spring Equinox festival. Tim and I prepared the eggs by piercing holes in each end and blowing the insides out. Clover carefully threaded embroidery floss through each shell and tied a bead on the bottom to secure, and everyone painted eggs! We used watercolors and some of Clover's glitter stash, and the eggs turned out beautifully!!





I'm tempted to just leave them hanging on the clothes hanger, but Tim made a beautiful egg tree. So tomorrow we will transition our nature table, hang the eggs on the tree, and I will post some pictures as soon as I can!

walk in the woods

We took a really nice walk in the woods behind our house. Clover found an old blue metal pot in the sandy part of our creek. It had obviously been buried there for years. All of the kids were so excited! She washed it out with sand and brought it back to the house. It has lots of rust holes in the bottom, so it is going to be a really nice planting pot for the garden. We are thinking of planting our licorice mint in it.




In other wonderful Spring-y news, I have been getting lots of beautiful bouquets from my sweet family members. The kids and I started the amaryllis bulb in the house
and it is going to bloom any day! Hurray!!!!
